(Burlington, Canada) Thordon Bearings Inc. has announced the addition of ThorPlas-White to its line of high performance, non-metallic bearings.  ThorPlas-White has been specifically developed by Thordon’s New Product Development team for bearing or wear pad usage in the treatment and distribution of drinking water as well as for use in the construction of food processing equipment.  

ThorPlas-White has received the NSF International Certification for NSF/ANSI 61 Drinking Water System Components and NSF/ANSI 51 Food Equipment materials.  Additionally, it has been approved by the Water Regulation Advisory Scheme (WRAS) for its characteristics of preserving the protection of public health by preventing the contamination of public water supplies.  Thus, it can be used in a wide variety of food and potable water handling equipment, where NSF 51 or NSF 61 is required.

“Not only does ThorPlas-White offer low friction and high load capability, it is also certified by NSF for use in drinking water and food equipment applications, with lubrication from water instead of grease,” says Keith Brand, Business Development Manager for the Pump and Industrial sectors at Thordon Bearings.  He continues to say that, “In addition to this unique combination of attributes, ThorPlas-White can operate in dry or wet conditions, at slow and high speeds respectively.”

ThorPlas-White is a thermoplastic alloy that offers long bearing wear life and dry run capability due to its built in lubricants.  Furthermore, ThorPlas-White offers a low coefficient of friction during operation and good abrasion resistance. The product is easy to install and machine, without creating any nuisance dust. ThorPlas-White is capable of operating pressures up to 45MPa (6,527 psi) and can be easily back-fit into virtually all Industrial applications where greased bronze or roller bearings are currently installed.

Applications for ThorPlas-White include pump bearings for water treatment and food processing plants, mixer/agitator bearings, bottle filling equipment and valve bearings, conveyor and hanger bearings as well as a replacement for rolling element bearings.
