MSC Cruises has specified Thordon Bearings’ COMPAC water-lubricated propeller shaft system for the first of two (plus option) Seaside-class cruise ships currently under construction at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone The 154,000grt twin-screw vessel, the largest cruise ship ever to be built by the Italian yard, will be equipped with six COMPAC bearings in bronze carriers with tapered keysets to fit 664mm shaft diameters.

Thordon Bearings Inc. has signed a deal to supply its COMPAC seawater-lubricated propeller shaft bearings to two Alaska ferry newbuilds, the company announced in an emailed statement. The systems are Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL)-compliant and will ensure that these vessels can operate with zero risk of any oil discharges into a very ecologically sensitive area.

Thordon Bearings has received an order for a total of 20 seawater-lubricated COMPAC Propeller Shaft Bearing Systems for Chinese shipyards, marking the Canadian company’s most significant order for commercial vessels. The Seven Seas Explorer, Regent Seven Seas’ first newbuild contracted to Fincantieri, has been designed to set new standards in both passenger comfort and environmental protection.
