ThorPlas-Blue

Baie St-Paul Fairleads

The versatility of Thordon technology provides Navies and Coast Guards around the world with pollution-free, low maintenance and long lasting solutions for deck machinery and other unique bearing applications using ThorPlas-Blue, HPSXL TRAXL and other Thordon grades.

ThorPlas-Blue is a low friction polymer bearing designed for problem areas that have frequent maintenance where grease lubrication is not always possible and there is a high cost consequence of seized bushings. Capable of operating pressures to 45MPa (6,527 psi), ThorPlas-Blue can be easily back-fit into virtually all applications where greased bronze is currently installed.

Operating above and below the waterline, ThorPlas-Blue is a direct replacement for all greased bronze bearing applications eliminating the polluting grease, labour time and cost.  Operating temperatures for dry operation are -50°C (-58°F) to 110°C (230°F)

Typical applications include davit bearings, fairlead, sheave and pivot bearings, water tight door bushings, cargo ramp bushings and crane bearings.

HPSXL TRAXL is the HPSXL polymer in a bronze-backed configuration for high pressure applications with permissible peak static pressure up to 70 MPa (10,000 psi) with a very low dry coefficient of friction. HPSXL TRAXL is resistant to shock loading and vibration and is excellent for clean, oscillating, water lubricated applications requiring high load capability.

Other Thordon grades may also be possible for different operating environments depending on the pressures, speed and abrasives. Contact us for your unique naval bearing issues.

Canadian Coast Guard Opts for Thordon Bearings to Save Tax-Payers Money

    Mar 23, 2021
CCGS Terry Fox, one the largest icebreakers in the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) fleet, has returned to service with new Thordon propeller shaft bearings after concluding that fitting laminate phenolic bearings would extend dry dock time and costs. The 88m (289ft) long vessel, built in the 1980s had been operating Thordon’s water lubricated elastomeric polymer bearings on both shafts for 24 years. Then in 2018 the port shaft was retrofitted with a European made laminate phenolic-type bearing as part of a shaft alignment contract with the manufacturer.

Canadian Coast Guard Provides First Icebreaker Reference for Thordon's SeaThigor Seal

    Apr 15, 2019
Thordon Bearings has received a Canadian Coast Guard contract to supply six award-winning SeaThigor shaft seals for retrofit installation to three purpose-built icebreakers. The order follows the success of the 2017 installation and subsequent operation of SeaThigor seals aboard the oceanographic and hydrographic survey vessel CCGS Hudson, for which a procurement agreement was signed with the Government of Canada under its Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP).
